In Memoriam - Patricia Viney (married name Mitchell)

Patricia came to live in Croftend Ave a few blocks from where I stayed. Although she was a few years younger, we soon struck up a friendship. I discovered her family were Episcopalians, and Patricia and I attended Sunday School, Bible Class, Youth Fellowship, and Badminton Club. We also sang in the choir. Patricia's father was Head Steward on the long distance trains. At social functions we used to kid him on that he carried the trays like "Silver Service". In 1962 we had a Planned Giving Campaign, and Sid who was a Vestry member, was made Arrangements Manager, whatever that was.

Later when Bill and I were married, Patricia was my choice as bridesmaid and later when Morag came along her Godmother.

After Patricia moved to South Africa, she kept up her singing and formed a choir that was highly thought of, giving concerts and going on tour. A few years back she came home to visit her brother Arthur and Pamela, and came through to Glasgow where Gordon & Pamela Rutherford hosted a lovely day at their home in Milngavie. We exchanged memories, and Patricia showed us a write up in the press about her choir.

It was therefore with great sadness that I heard from Arthur that Patricia had died on Thursday 18 October and her funeral was being held in the Anglican Church in Scottburgh, South Africa on Wednesday 24 October 2012.
